4K IPTV: what you need, and what is really in 4K

Diablo IPTV streams in up to 4K. Whether you see 4K depends on three things on your side: the speed of your connection on the device that is watching, a device and screen that handle 4K, and a channel that is broadcast in 4K in the first place.

Updated October 20, 2026

The speed you need

QualitySteady speed on the watching device
HD (720p)About 5 to 8 Mbps
Full HDAbout 15 Mbps
4KAbout 25 Mbps

Measure on the device doing the watching, not on a laptop in another room, and measure in the evening rather than at midday: that is when shared connections slow down. A wired connection holds 4K far better than Wi-Fi through two walls. Leave a margin, too: a line that tests at exactly 25 Mbps will drop below it the moment someone else in the house starts a download, so 35 Mbps or more is comfortable for 4K.

Devices that play 4K

Device4K
Fire TV Stick 4K, Stick 4K Max, Fire TV CubeYes
Fire TV Stick (non-4K) and Fire TV Stick LiteNo, Full HD at most
Samsung and LG 4K Smart TVsYes, through the TV’s own app
Android TV and Google TV boxes sold as 4KYes
Phones and tabletsDepends on the screen; often limited to Full HD on mobile data
Windows and MacYes, on a 4K monitor, with hardware HEVC decoding (most computers from 2016 on)

The screen has to be 4K too: a 4K stick on a Full HD television shows Full HD. And the player has to decode HEVC (H.265), the format most 4K streams use. The players our setup guides recommend do; older devices without hardware HEVC decoding will accept a 4K stream and then struggle with it. On a computer, VLC uses hardware decoding by default; if 4K stutters, check that it is switched on in Preferences, under Input / Codecs.

What is actually in 4K

Not everything. In any IPTV catalogue, 4K is a share of the whole: some sport, film and documentary channels, and part of the on-demand library. The rest is Full HD or HD, because that is how it is broadcast. Look for channels labelled 4K or UHD in the channel groups once your details are loaded.

Between the streamer and the television, use an HDMI port that supports HDMI 2.0 and HDCP 2.2; on many televisions only one or two ports do, and they are labelled 4K, UHD or ARC. The television’s HDMI settings may also need an “enhanced” or “UHD colour” option switched on. HDR only shows when the channel itself is broadcast in HDR and the television supports it.

To check you really are watching 4K, open the stream information in the player (in TiviMate, press OK then the info button): it should read 3840×2160 or 2160p. If it says 1920×1080, the channel is Full HD, whatever its name.

If a 4K channel stutters

Choose the Full HD version of the same channel. It settles immediately on a slower line or an older device, and on most televisions the difference is hard to see from the sofa.

Getting the most out of 4K

  • Connect the streamer by cable, or put it in the same room as the router.
  • Close other apps and pause large downloads on the same network while watching.
  • The subscription allows one stream at a time, so only one device can watch at once; but other devices using the internet in the house, such as a game download or a video call, still share the same line.

Common questions

Is every Diablo IPTV channel in 4K?
No. 4K is a share of the catalogue — some sport, film and documentary channels and part of the library. The rest is Full HD or HD, as broadcast.
How fast does my internet need to be for 4K IPTV?
About 25 Mbps, steady, measured on the device that is watching and in the evening. Full HD needs about 15 Mbps.
Does a Fire TV Stick play 4K IPTV?
The Fire TV Stick 4K, Stick 4K Max and Fire TV Cube do. The standard Fire TV Stick and the Stick Lite stop at Full HD.
