IPTV Smarters “Failed to authorize”: how to fix it

You enter your details, press Add User, and IPTV Smarters answers “Failed to authorize”, “Authorization failed” or “Invalid username or password”. The app is almost never the problem: it is the details it was given, the state of the account behind them, or a network that blocks the server. These checks run in the order that settles it fastest; they apply to any provider, and the account checks at the end are the ones Diablo IPTV support runs for its own customers.

What the message means

IPTV Smarters sent your server address, username and password to the server, and the server refused them, or never answered in the form the app expected. Nothing has been installed wrongly. That is why reinstalling the app rarely helps: it sends the same details again and gets the same answer.

Check these in order

  1. 1

Copy the server URL exactly as it is in your email

It has three parts: http:// at the start, the server name, and a port number after a colon, in the form http://name.example:8080. A missing http://, a missing port, a space at the start or end, or anything after the port such as a slash or /get.php is enough to fail. The app adds that last part itself. Some providers give an address with no port, or one starting with https:// — enter it exactly as given rather than adding :8080 to it.

  2. 2

    Choose the right login type

With a server URL, a username and a password, choose “Login with Xtream Codes API”. With one long link, choose “Load your playlist or file/URL” instead. The wrong screen fails even with correct details.

  3. 3

Paste the username and password rather than typing them

Both are case-sensitive, and on a television keyboard a capital O and a zero look alike. Copy them from the email on your phone, or type them on the phone first to check they work before trying the television.

  4. 4

    Check the account is active

Details used before activation is complete, or after the period you paid for, are refused with exactly this message. Your welcome email has the dates. A renewal keeps the same username and password, so nothing changes on the device.

  5. 5

Stop playback on any other device

One subscription allows one stream at a time. If a phone or a second television is already watching, close the app there and try again.

  6. 6

Delete the user in IPTV Smarters and add it again

The app keeps the details of a profile it already saved, including a mistyped one. Remove that user from the list, then add a new one with freshly pasted details.

  7. 7

Rule out your network with a phone hotspot

Some internet providers and public Wi-Fi networks block IPTV servers, and a blocked server can answer with “Authorization failed for above host” or simply time out into “Failed to authorize”. Turn on the hotspot on your phone, connect the television or stick to it and try once. If it logs in there, the details are fine and the block is on your home network: changing the DNS on the device or router (for example to 1.1.1.1) often clears it, and a VPN does when DNS does not.

  8. 8

Set the device clock to automatic

A date or time far from the real one can make secure connections fail on some devices. In the device settings, switch date and time to automatic, then restart the app.

  9. 9

If it worked yesterday on every device, wait a few minutes

When details that worked fail everywhere at once, the problem is not on your side. Try once more after a few minutes before changing anything else.

Test the details outside IPTV Smarters

Open VLC on a computer, choose Media then Open Network Stream (on a Mac: File then Open Network), and paste the M3U link from your welcome email. If channels play there, the account and the details are fine, and the problem is how they were entered in IPTV Smarters. If VLC fails too, the problem is upstream of any player, and writing to us is quicker than any setting.

When to write to us

Send these three things

A screenshot of the error, the device and app you are using, and whether the VLC test above worked. With those, we check the account on our side and reply with what we find, usually without asking anything else.

Common questions

Will reinstalling IPTV Smarters fix “Failed to authorize”?
Rarely. The app sends the same details again and the server gives the same answer. Deleting the saved user and adding it again with freshly pasted details is what clears a mistyped profile.
Why does it work on my phone but not on my television?
Usually a typo made with the television remote, or the wrong login type chosen on that device. Copy the details from the phone, and check the television used “Login with Xtream Codes API” if you have a server URL.
What does “Authorization failed for above host” mean?
The same refusal, worded differently by some versions of the app. Check the server URL first; if the details are right, try a phone hotspot, because this wording often appears when the network blocks the server.
I bought my subscription somewhere else. Does this still apply?
Yes. The checks are the same for any provider that gives an Xtream Codes login. Only the last step, checking the account itself, has to be done by whoever sold you the subscription.
Does “Failed to authorize” mean my subscription was blocked?
Not on its own. The same message appears for a typo, a missing port, an account that is not active yet, or one that has ended. Check the details and the dates in your welcome email first.
